The following is verbatim from the Winter 2008 Beaver Brook newsletter, The Log. The notes were written by Glenn Lloyd, Trail Maintainer
We are well into Autumn, leaf color is almost past and two frosty mornings remind us that Winter is close at hand. Trails continue to remain in good shape, despite a heavy growth season, thanks to our maintainers and welcome assistance from school and corporate volunteer groups. Thanks again to students from Souhegan High School for their contribution to new bridge construction and to employees of Pneutronics Division of Parker Hannifin of Hollis for their brush clearing efforts on trails South of Route 130.
On July 26, 2008, in keeping with tradition, New Hampshire Trails Day was again hosted by Pete Smith and observed with projects on our Burns Farm, Milford trail network. To counter trail erosion new drainages were installed and existing ones re-defined as necessary. Brush clearing and field edge maintenance on Burns Loop were completed. Lastely, meadow trail sections were freshly mowed. Thanks again to Bill Burns, Beth Flagler, Alan Sauve, Dave Anderson and three Bio students from Alvirne High School, Alan Foster, Conor Hein and John Roosk for completing these trail improvements. Major bridgework was installed on the North side of the Wildlife Pond Loop to replace rotting Hemlock log puncheons which had become unsafe. Bridgework on three separate crossings totalling approximately 140 feet was completed.
We currently have a full complement of Maintainers and Monitors covering the trails. However, anyone interested in volunteering for these activities should contact the Beaver Brook office at (603) 465-7787. We will contact you as new opportunities arise.
